Emergency First-Aid Fundamentals teaches students to become their families’ first responders. From learning how to assess a patient’s condition to delving into proper treatment of chest and spinal injuries, broken bones, shock, serious bleeding, and more, this curriculum will prepare students to help others when only minutes can mean the difference between life and death. Additionally, it serves as a crucial foundation for those interested in active shooter response, as emergencies can arise unexpectedly in any situation.
There are four mini-classes we offer:
Patient Assessment » Students will learn how to assess both the safety of a scene and the seriousness of a situation to better understand the need for additional help and the risks to any rescuer’s personal safety. This is particularly relevant during active shooter scenarios where quick thinking is essential.
Traumatic Emergencies » This mini-class addresses the assessment and treatment of a number of traumatic emergencies, including severe bleeding, a penetrating chest injury, flail chest, severe burns, musculoskeletal trauma (injury to the bones, muscles, ligaments, or tendons), and trauma to the head and eye. Understanding these emergencies is vital for anyone considering defensive shooting courses, as injuries can occur in high-stress situations.
Medical Emergencies » Students will learn how to deal with medical emergencies that are much more likely to occur than a gunshot wound. These emergencies include a stroke, cardiac arrest, a diabetic emergency, and more, emphasizing the importance of first aid training in everyday life.
Building Your Own Emergency First-Aid Kit » This mini-class covers what type of gear might be included in three different-sized emergency first-aid kits to fit three different needs (or three different “missions”). Participants can also consider including items that might be useful in handgun training scenarios, ensuring they are well-prepared for various situations. Additionally, we offer specialized women’s pistol courses that complement these first aid skills.
This course is designed to prepare responsible citizens with the knowledge, awareness, and mindset needed for effective active shooter response and to respond to mass violence events.
While no one can predict when or where these incidents may occur, you can control how you prepare. This training focuses on recognizing pre-incident indicators, improving situational awareness, and making fast, informed decisions under stress.
Students will learn proven response strategies including avoidance, movement, use of cover, communication, and when legally justified, the effective use of a firearm to stop a threat, which is an essential aspect of defensive shooting. Emphasis is placed on decision-making, accountability, and understanding the legal and moral responsibilities involved in the use of force.
This course is not about fear—it’s about preparation, awareness, and the ability to act decisively to protect yourself and others.
What you’ll gain:
- Increased situational awareness and threat recognition
- Understanding of active shooter response options
- Defensive mindset and decision-making under stress
- Knowledge of lawful use of force and personal responsibility
